in this issue Wow, I can't believe it's February already. We have been having beautifully sunny days in Summit County. This week it's snowing - hopefully it will keep coming. Now for the skiers and this summer for the lakes. Every Ten Years - it's Census Time~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's a picture of some census takers rushing for the door. Not really, it's the China snow sculpture from the Breckenridge completion a couple weeks ago. The United States Constitution requires that every resident in the United States be counted every 10 years. The 2010 Census will help communities receive federal funds each year for schools, hospitals, job training centers, public works projects, emergency services and more. The data collected by the census also help determine the number of seats your state has in the U.S. House of Representatives. In March the Census questionnaire will be sent to each home - only 10 questions this year. Be sure to answer the questions and send it back. The Census made me wonder who buys property in Summit County. I looked at all the properties that were sold in 2009 where a "doc fee" was paid. It's not surprising that 40% of the buyers were from the front range and 81% of those were in the Denver/Boulder and suburbs. 23% of the sales were to buyers with local addresses. Texas has the most sales outside Colorado with 9%, Florida was second, the midwest had the most buyers for a region with 11%. Only 3 sales to foreign buyers. I don't know how accurate my method is, but it shows trends - much the same as they were the last time I did this exercise. To give you an idea of prices in the same complex there is a one bedroom for $119,000 and a two bedroom for $165,000. If you are looking for a place to get-a-way at a reasonable price check out these units. In the town of Dillon you are able to walk to the lake, restaurants and shops. Lodge at Lake Dillon is a complex just a block from the Marina, prices start at $235,000 for a two bedroom unit.
